Crew Resource Management

(Flight Deck Crew / Cabin Crew / Dispatchers / Operations Staff)

“CRM can be defined as a management system which makes optimum use of all available resources – equipment, procedures and people – to promote safety and enhance the efficiency of flight operations.” 

CRM is concerned not so much with the technical knowledge and skills required to fly and operate an aircraft but rather with the cognitive and interpersonal skills needed to manage the flight within an organised aviation system. The Initial CRM course is the starting point, and provides the basic framework of ideas. It begins the process of attitude change and introduces people to the skills of safe and effective crew processes. Recurrent training will build on the foundation provided by the initial CRM course. Flitedux CRM courses are creative and participative, using a range of techniques to make course members aware of the importance of CRM.

CRM Initial Course (2 Days)

During the CRM Initial course, the following concepts are analysed and discussed:

  • Managing Cultural Diversity
  • Threat and Error Management
  • Leadership and Decision-Making

  • Inter- and Intra-Personal Relationships

CRM Refresher Course (1 Day)

The CRM Refresher course is designed to refresh upon concepts covered in the Initial CRM course and further build upon and reflects on the following concepts:

  • Safety Culture
  • Human Factors
  • Communication
  • The CRM Cycle
  • Problem Solving
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Situational Awareness
  • Aircrew and Automation
  • Threat and Error Management
  • Decision-Making and Leadership

CRM training is compulsory for all Flight Deck Crew and training is valid for one year. It is only presently required for Cabin Crew to attend if the Air Operator requires this, however, the SACAA are in the process of legislating CRM for Cabin Crew.

The above courses have been designed to promote effective crew resource management skills by providing the crew with the necessary abilities required as well as how to utilise their available resources in any abnormal situation.
